Training for Adults in Scouting

West Yorkshire Scouts has its own training team for Scouting, we support and run many courses for our leaders, whether they are new to Scouting or have been with us for some time.

One of the key principles of the adult training scheme is flexibility. It’s available to you whenever you want it. The scheme gives you the opportunity to learn at a time and place convenient to you.

We run our sectional leadership courses in 2 formats;  (until we return to GREEN in the COVID risk assessments we will not be holding face to face sessions)

    • you can choose to attend one of our residential multi module weekends, where we will provide the learning for modules 5 / 8 / 9 / 11 / 12a & b /13 / 14 / 15 / 18 / 19
    • or a series of one day courses run over 3 separate days, in consecutive months, where you attend for one day and complete the learning for 3 or 4 modules, the format is normally, Day 1 – 12a / 12b / 13, Day 2 – 5 / 11 / 14 / 15, Day 3 – 8 / 9 / 18 / 19
    • also you have the option if you wish, to complete the majority of the modules via e-learning; however we always advise that you get more out of attending a course with other leaders, as you get a shared experience and can use the skills and knowledge of others who are also attending.

Discuss with your Local training Manager (LTM) or Training Advisor (TA) your preferred options, you may also wish to discuss with your line Manager your personal learning plan.

Once you have agreed your role description with your line manager, you will need to create a plan for your training called a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) before starting your training. This should be created and agreed in partnership with your Training Adviser.
