West Yorkshire Scouts has a special partnered with Bradford University to offer young people a hands-on experience with science and discovery. The free Science Day, held at the university’s campus, provided Scouts with the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting experiments and interactive activities.
The event, designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), saw young participants engaging in practical experiments, guided by university staff and student volunteers. Activities included chemistry demonstrations, physics challenges, and biology-based investigations, all tailored to make complex scientific concepts accessible and fun.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for Scouts to conduct their own experiments, such as creating chemical reactions and making bath fizzes. These hands-on activities not only deepened their understanding of science but also encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. #skillsforlife
Leaders from West Yorkshire Scouts praised the partnership, noting the importance of giving young people access to new learning opportunities outside of the classroom. “This event and events like this are a fantastic way to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers,” said Toby Hammond, County Youth Lead. “It’s great to see our young people so engaged and enthusiastic about science.
The Science Day was a resounding success, with Scouts leaving the event excited about what they had learned and eager to continue their scientific explorations. Many expressed interest in further STEM activities, and leaders hope this experience will inspire some to pursue future careers in science and technology.
This partnership between West Yorkshire Scouts and Bradford University highlights the power of community collaboration in supporting young people’s education and personal development.
