Scouts County Inclusion Advisor – Role Description
Role Title:
County Inclusion Advisor – Note this is a volunteer role.
Responsible to:
County Lead Volunteer and Deputy Lead Volunteer
Purpose of the Role
The County Inclusion Advisor supports the development of an inclusive culture across the County, ensuring that Scouting is accessible, welcoming, and equitable for all young people and adult volunteers. The role provides guidance, challenge, and support to help remove barriers to participation and promote diversity in all its forms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Support
- Advise the County Leadership Team on inclusion, diversity, and equity priorities on the launch of our safe spaces.
- Support the development and implementation of the County Inclusion Plan aligned with national strategy ‘A place to belong’.
- Promote inclusive practices across all sections and programmes.
2. Guidance and Advice
- Act as the main point of contact for inclusion-related queries within the County.
- Provide advice to Groups, Districts, and County teams on supporting young people and volunteers with additional needs.
- Support leaders in making reasonable adjustments to ensure full participation.
3. Training and Development
- Work with the County learning and development team to embed inclusion within learning opportunities.
- Deliver or facilitate workshops, briefings, and resources on inclusive practice.
- Signpost leaders to relevant tools, guidance, and best practice and celebrate this.
4. Advocacy and Culture
- Champion a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and able to belong.
- Promote positive language and inclusive behaviours.
- Support the County in celebrating diversity and raising awareness of inclusion topics.
5. Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Build links with local organisations and communities to support inclusion.
- Encourage engagement with underrepresented groups.
- Support initiatives that widen access to Scouting.
6. Monitoring and Improvement
- Support the County in identifying barriers to participation.
- Use feedback and data to inform improvements.
- Contribute to reviews and reports on inclusion across the County.
Skills and Experience
- Passion for all areas of inclusion, diversity, and equality
- experience and Knowledge of inclusion, diversity, and equality
- Understanding of barriers faced by young people and volunteers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support, challenge, and influence others constructively
- Experience in Scouting (desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of safeguarding and reasonable adjustments
- being able to get big outcomes with a small budget

Time Commitment

Attend a District AGM and St. Georges Day.
Attend the County AGM and Development Day
Attend County Meetings (2 a month)
Attend County Event (1 a month)
This role is for an initial period for one year.
