Role Title:

County Beaver Lead

Responsible to:

County Lead Volunteer and County Programme Lead 4-14)


Purpose of the Role

The County Beaver Lead supports the development and delivery of a high-quality, engaging, and inclusive programme for Beaver Scouts (ages 6–8) across the County. The role works with District teams and leaders to ensure that all young people experience fun, adventure, and personal development in line with Scouts’ values.


Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Leadership

  • Champion an exciting, balanced, and age-appropriate programme for Beaver Scouts.
  • Promote the use of badges, awards, and adventurous activities.
  • Support the delivery of national programme initiatives within the County.

2. Support to Districts and Groups

  • Act as the main point of contact for Beaver provision across the County.
  • Support District Beaver Leads (or equivalent roles) in their work.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Beaver leaders to enhance programme quality.

3. Events and Opportunities

  • Lead and support the planning and delivery of County Beaver events and activities.
  • Encourage participation in County, regional, and national opportunities.
  • Ensure events are inclusive, accessible, and engaging.

4. Growth and Development

  • Support the growth of Beaver provision across the County.
  • Help identify areas where new Colonies could be developed.
  • Promote retention and positive transitions to Cub Scouts.

5. Training and Development

  • Work with the County Learning team to support the learning needs of Beaver leaders.
  • Contribute to training, workshops, or resources focused on the Beaver section.
  • Share good practice and innovative ideas.

6. Inclusion and Safeguarding

  • Promote inclusive practice within Beaver Scout provision.
  • Support leaders to make reasonable adjustments where needed.
  • Ensure a strong focus on safety, safeguarding, and wellbeing.

7. Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain effective communication with District Beaver Leads and County teams.
  • Share updates, opportunities, and resources regularly.
  • Collaborate with other section leads to support smooth transitions.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with Beaver Scouts or early years/primary-aged children
  • Understanding of programme delivery for 6–8 year olds
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to support and motivate volunteers
  • Experience in Scouting (desirable but not essential)

Time Commitment

 

Being flexible is key to this role

Attend a District AGM and St. Georges Day.

Attend the County AGM and Development Day

Attend County Meetings (3 a month)

Attend County Event (1 a month)

This role is for an initial period for three years.

Appointment Requirements

  • Appointment in line with Scouts’ policies and procedures
  • Completion of relevant training (including safety and safeguarding)
  • DBS check as required

  • Increased engagement, growth and retention of young people
  • Confident and supported Beaver leaders
  • Successful transition of young people into the Cub Scout section
