On Sunday, 15th June 2025, the Keighley Cougars proudly hosted their annual Pride match against the Rochdale Hornets at Cougar Park, with kick-off. More than just a game, this fixture stands as a powerful statement of inclusion, community, and belonging — values we champion every day in West Yorkshire Scouts.
The Cougars’ Pride match is part of their wider commitment to the Rugby Football League’s Inclusion & Diversity Programme. It’s an opportunity for players, fans, and partners to stand together in celebration of LGBTQ+ identities and to reinforce the message that rugby – like Scouting – is a space where everyone can be themselves.
What Pride Means in Scouting
Just like the Cougars, we in Scouts are proud to fly the rainbow flag. Scout Pride events take place across the UK, bringing together LGBTQ+ members and allies to celebrate who we are. Whether it’s marching in a Pride parade or wearing a rainbow necker at a local event, Scouts are making it loud and clear: everyone is welcome here.
West Yorkshire Scouts actively promote inclusion through our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) work. From Squirrels to Scout Network, we create safe, inclusive spaces where young people and adult volunteers alike feel supported and valued.
As Scouts, we believe that role models matter. When local sports teams stand proudly for inclusion, they send a strong message: you belong – no matter your gender identity or who you love.
Get Involved
We’d loved to see Scouts showing their support at Cougar Park that weekend.
Together, let’s keep building a world where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated.
